Wildlife is on the move here, between the Klamath-Siskiyou mountains, the Cascades, the Eddies, and the Trinities. They make daily movements to find food and mates, seasonal migrations as conditions change, and generational shifts claiming new territory to call home.
As the animals traverse their habitat, they cross Interstate 5, and that results in collisions between vehicles and wildlife.
As anyone who travels I-5 knows, this is a big problem, for motorists and wildlife.
We can't stop the animals from crossing the freeway.
But there is a workable solution: crossings that take animals over or under the roadway are proven to reduce collisions.
Through our Wildlife Crossing 5 campaign, and by working with the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) and our community allies, we're focusing on making this critical stretch of freeway safer for both people and wildlife.
More on the public safety issues.
How does this impact wildlife preservation?
